Existentialism is really really funny and I can’t explain why
I guess it could be that I really really like it and it makes me happy but it’s not just that.

So I was looking up hate speech laws because That Shit Is Important
and
it turns out
Ireland doesn’t really have proper functional freedom of speech laws that the government can’t take away?
Article 40.6.1.i states that “the state guarantees liberty for the exercise of the following rights, subject to public order and morality:”
also
“The publication or utterance of blasphemous, seditious, or indecent matter is an offence which shall be punishable in accordance with law.”
Fair enough those probably aren’t particularly used much but its still kid of terrible that blasphemous, seditious and indecent things, which are so bloody vague, are still illegal. Maybe the first part is necessary to ensure that we can have hate speech laws but i doubt it and there must be another way to do it.
I think we’ve kind of okay hate speech laws though.

askancethebrook replied to your post: Did you find yourself in capable of finding the x-men sympathetic at the end? Cause I /so/ did and I’m concerned that I might be alone.
Cause Charles turned into such a /dick/. And tried to make Mystique hide her pretty blue body and so on. Altho, the Brotherhood has always been cooler to me. so i was biased.
Oh right I thought you meant did I support the humans! No, I completely agree, I supported Erik and the brotherhood completely(when you said x-men I thought you meant all the mutants in general), Charles was such a dick augh. It’s cause Mystique anf Magneto were completely fantastic and Charles’ way would have led to all of them being killed so yeah I completely agree =p

neamy asked: so little space in these ask thingies. anyway I was very much impressed with XMen First Class. I thought McAvoy made the best he could out of a poorly written Charles (Charles' wisdom clearly arrived with age in this telling of the story). good movie, overall. Great explosions and whatnot :D
Yeah Charles was nowhere near as understanding and aware as I thought he should have been, but he was played very well and gave the appearance of possibly being a good mentor later on. Now all we need is a good sequel that doesn’t make Magneto a complete mess of a character

Haha no not at all, in fact I started to find them sympathetic to a dangerous degree! Sorry oh well. Why did you not find them sympathetic at all?

neamy asked: heyyy I see you enjoyed XMen First Class -- thank you. No one else agrees with me except my sister, who watched it with NO subtitles on any of the foreign-language parts, so she basically missed half of it, so her opinion is probably invalid. Michael Fassbender is amazing, no? Niamh
Sorry, I watched it without subtitles too! It was on the internet and I wasn’t bothered to go find one with subtitles, but you can make out what was happening for the most part. The subtitled parts were Erik’s origin story, him hunting the Germans and Shaw starting the Cuban Missile Crisis in the same way as he “convinced” the american dude to put missiles in Turkey. YES Michael was the best part, he played Erik so well and in such a sympathetic manner and was also really cool

charles is the only telepath who doesn’t seem to understand the people he reads at all. weren’t we supposed to have sympathy for erik? i thought charles went about everything really badly
yeah no I completely didn’t understand how charles was so /bad/ at understanding people, he can READ MINDS you’d think he’d be better at it by now.Yes we were supposed to have sympathy for Erik but his approach becomes incredibly problematic once he starts killing people, but the main problem is for the most part I started agreeing with him! Even though we kind of know how he turns out.
